04. I Don’t Think We Are in Cillamar Anymore…

Posted on August 29, 2011January 11, 2025 by Brianna

After finding their way through a tunnel out of the tomb, the group found themselves at the gate of Cillamar.  After going through the gates, they were greeted by the guards who had found them in the tomb outside of town. The father of one of the children they had rescued thank the group again and said if they ever needed help that to ask for Bryan at the Kings Gate entrance and he would be glad to help out. The commander of the exploration group, a  member of the Magn’gard, also says that he would help the group and says to ask for Ariel Perun if they need help in town. The group said that they would like to meet with the guards later and Bryan suggested meeting at the Drunken Minotaur

The group then heads over to the Slumbering Drake to get a meal and rooms to stay in. After freshening up a bit, the group goes over to the Drunken Minotaur to meet with the guards.  Once they are introduced at the tavern they receive a loud welcome from the owner, Micah. He is the father of one of the little boys who the group rescued and he offers a reward of 200 gold pieces to the group. Darsus speaks up and tells him that the gold will be given to theshrine of Cayden Cailean. Micah calls for a messenger and sends the gold over to the temple immediately and then buys a round of drinks for everyone there.

After meeting with the guards and trying to find a way to help out, the group heads over to the shrine  in order to thank Cayden for his help in their adventures. They meet the cleric of the shrine, Corgash Darkeyes, get some more information. The group also receives guidance for some training and they make plans to spend a month in Cillamar improving their skills and preparing for more adventure.

The group returns to the Slumbering Drake and has a quiet night. During the next week they spend time shopping and in training with various mentors.  They find out that there is a shortage of magic items, so they are limited in what they can purchase. Darsus is able to purchase some scribe scroll materials for a marked up price but most of the items the group purchases are non-magical.

After one of their days of shopping and training, they return to the inn and hear a voice from an old book that they found. The book is of children’s fairy tales and it is a talking book. They question the book and find out that it can tell tales and entertain them. Over the next weeks it tells them tales and they quickly grow bored with the simple tales of Rapunzel, the old woman in the shoe and other stories. While they wait for word of a new task, they grow restless.

One day they come back to find a note directing them to head over to the Kings Gate in order to find out about a new task that they can perform to help out Cillamar. They quickly pack up their things and head out the door only to find themselves somewhere else.

The somewhere else turns out to be a demiplane that is self contained and a land of fairy tales. The walk out into a field filled with adventurers camping out around an arch. As they ask around they find out that the arch is the way back home and the other people wait to try and go through when the arch is activated. The arch is activated when two tokens, a lock of Rapunzel’s hair and the show of the old mother are brought and placed into shelves in the arch. However, once the arch is open, it only stays open for a short time and only a few people can get through. Some of the people there have tried to get the tokens but have failed or seen others killed and have given up. There also seems to be a taint in the air that can affect people and make them lose hope.

The group decides to look for help and finds a bard, Kyl and a sorceror, Elsbeth, who will join their group if they can also leave with them if they get the tokens. They also find out that a ranger, One Tusk, has been overly friendly with the ladies. They decide to try and win the group over and go for a hunt for deer for a feast that evening. After dispatching a couple of ogres, they bring back deer and confront One Tusk. A paladin acts to keep violence from breaking out in the camp but after finding out about One Tusk, he has One Tusk captured and guarded so that he can be tried for his crimes. Everyone else enjoys the feast and the group prepares to head out the next day for Rapunzel’s tower.

The next day they make their way to the tower and find a black knight guarding the towers. The knight charges by and makes a good strike against Cendrine but the group rallies and prevents the knight from taking anyone down. The group wins out and proceeds to the tower with the ladder they purchased from a lizard man who sells ladders for just such a purpose. The group encounters some assassin vines but overcomes them and makes their way into the tower.

After making their way in, Rapunzel starts singing and charms  Danicia, Cendrine, and Kyl to come stand close to her and not attack.  Darsus and Sheliak make their way in and are able to attack. Rapunzel is able to make one or two attacks on Cendrine and Danicia before being overcome. As she lays on the floor dying, she changes into a harpy and then disappears as she takes her last breath. When she disappears, Danicia, Cendrine, and Kyl recover. The group searches the room and finds a few trinkets that she left behind. They were also able to clip a lock of hair before she disappeared and found some hair in a hair brush as a backup for the token for the arch. The session ended with the group in the top of the tower.
