Katana is from the small town of Bone Hollow which has a population of humans and half-orcs. A band of orcs was favorably received many years ago and due to the kindness from the village the orcs saved the townspeople from a chimera. This led to a friendship between the two and occasional interracial marriages. Today half of the town's population is half-orcs who are friendly and hardworking members of the community. Katana favors her human heritage with non-greenish skin and reddish hair but her stocky build, pointed ears and pointed teeth clearly show her orc heritage. She learned to hunt animals in the forests around Bone Hollow and after several years decided she was ready to move to bigger things. She now helps with caravan guarding and has gotten a good reputation as an honest, solid addition to a caravan. She is ready for a break from traveling across the various lands and wants to become familiar with the area around Cillamar. She is willing to help Theragra out in learning about being a ranger as she also works to improve her skills.

While guarding The Strangers wagon she was captured by a group of nixies and taken captive underwater. While she was their captive she overheard them talking about the orcs who had inhabited Castle Whiterock and how they thought they had captured a female nixie. Katana was captured because she is half orc and the nixies wanted to use her as a hostage to try and get her back. The head of the group, Ceandril, is the brother of the female, Nemoura and fears for her safety. Katana only heard this bit before the nixies knocked her out. The next thing she knew The Strangers had rescued her and she was brought back to the surface.
