5. Small, Medium or Giant Size That Order of Monsters

Posted on April 17, 2013January 20, 2024 by Brianna

After resting up for the night the group went back down in the castle to continue where they had left off. They found a room with a giant sized bed in it along with some notes about the mining, a reference to a magical item being searched for in the mines and a warning of “Avoid the western mines! Danger!” They also found some valuables including a masterwork flute constructed of jade and a note with the following words in Orcish. Kaylord was able to translate the words as shown below.

n

Ast'uet – Statue
nRon'the – Throne
nCeal'egle – Celestial Eagle
nEeasg'tlaeg – Giant Eagle
nWroth'iec – White Roc

n

They also found a secret room with a model of the Castle from when it was still all above water and in use. The model showed that there were additional levels for the castle that were now underwater. The room looks like it may have been used for planning for the castle many years ago.

n

After exploring the room the group continued down a corridor and found a room that once served as a temple but now appeared to be used for training. After searching the old altar they found a prayer book for Iomedae, an offering plate, a cracked bottle of air and an iron key. Traveling further down the hall they found two barracks for orcs with the orcs still using them. In one case they barely avoided being deafened by a thunderstone and finally took out the orcs.

n

The group proceeded with caution and could hear orcs at the top of a set of stairs. After challenging the orcs and being snickered at the group moved up the stairs to attack. They then started dodging as barrels were rolled down the stairs and avoided being flattened. Once the group made it to the top of the stairs they took out the snickering orcs. They found a circular room with a well. After looking down the well they could see a ladder down. Kaylord went down underwater and found a possible opening that had been blocked by a stone fall. It was decided to continue exploring the rest of the level to see what could be found.

n

While continuing their exploration the group found a passage blocked by a stone and could hear a gentle feminine song on the other side. They were able to move the stone and found a nixie on the other side. She asked for their help in getting rid of a giant crayfish so that she could go down an underwater passage and rejoin her people. The heroes agree and she offers to help by casting water breathing on some of the group. The giant crayfish is defeated and Nemoura thanks her rescuers. She also gives them a ring that seem to be magical but which she has found no use for. She swims off down the passage and the heroes look over the ring and figure out it is a ring of water breathing.

n

Continuing on the group runs into some annoying critters and more orcs guarding a circular room. The room appears to be a fallen tower, on its side built for giants. In this area they find a giant sized, bluish skinned female orc who attacks them. She taunts them but she picked the wrong group to pick on and is taken down. As the group continues up the tower they find an animated giant skeleton that gives them a challenge before they take it down. They see many murals with orcs in them and find some bits of treasure and then decide that this is the end of the level. When they go back they find a secret door in the tomb where the zombies were located. Coravel, while still infected with the zombie rot starts to fight it off however the group decides its time to head back to town to sell their goodies and practice on their skills. They suspect they will be coming back to see what else they can find in the ruins of Castle Whiterock.
