The session began with The Strangers preparing to explore behind a secret panel. Before going they looked around and found a pair of necklaces that seemed ancient. The whole place had a feeling of ancient times, times before the Empire of Crieste and even before any history was recorded by the current races in thw world. The Strangers considered going back to the Keep and while discussing this a ghost appeared out of the little girl who had been kidnapped. The ghost spoke in an unintelligible language and then pointed to the passage behind them. After a minute, he then started down the passage and gestured for the group to follow. They started to follow, without the little girl and Feredir. When the ghost looked back and did not see the little girl, he went back and gestured that she should be brought along too. Feredir brought her and the horses along with them along the caverns.

The group walked down, following the ghost who gestured for them to hurry along. They passed a room and detected magic so decided to check it out. When they entered small winged creatures attacked them. The group fired arrows and Aramil put three of the creatures to sleep. The Strangers then prepared to bring the fight to the creatures but before they could finish the other two, the creatures cast magic that caused part of the cave wall to slide over the group. Kaylord and Aramil lost their balance and were buried under rock and dirt that had fallen on them. Aramil was able to escape by recalling a spell for gaseous form but Kaylord could not must the strength, even when raging to escape the rocks piled on top of him. Quis'Ari quickly stepped up to start digging for Kaylord while Aramil used magic to attack the creatures. Coravel worked to help with the digging while Feredir helped to finish off the creatures. Once the creatures were down Feredir, Coravel and Quis'Ari were able to dig Kaylord out before he was crushed by the rocks. Aramil found the magic item that had attracted their attention, a ring of cold resistance that hardly seemed worth the cave in on the party. Kaylord vented his rage on one of the sleeping creatures with a coup de grace that rendered the creature into the dust from which it had come.

After getting cured by the cleric the group continued on. Quis'Ari remembered that she could cast a spell to comprehend languages and meditated to get the spell. She found out that the ghost had been a shaman for a group many thousands of years ago. His deity was the Great Mastodon who had been forgotten when he and his people were killed by a Winged Monster. In order to find his final rest he needed a new shaman or priestess for the Great Mastodon and he wanted the girl to take that role. In order for her to take over she needed to witness how the Winged Monster had killed his tribe and the mastodon they had been tracking. And then the group would need to kill the Winged Monster in order to allow the worship of the Great Mastodon once again.
n
The spell did not allow the group to converse with the ghost but they were able to communicate with sign language to find out if any harm was meant for the girl or for them. The ghost said no, no harm was meant and that the girl and the group needed to live in order for him to find his final rest. He then led them to a cavern and said they needed to clean out the monster within in order to purify the cavern for the Great Mastodon. The group entered and found a large black blob that tried to engulf Coravel. It failed also failed in its attempt to grapple Kaylord. Aramil and Quis'Ari laid down some fire damage while Feredir fired arrows. After the black blob made the mistake of trying to overrun Kaylord, Kaylord was able to start a smack down on the blob. He asked for a Shield of Faith from the cleric and she moved closer in order to cast the spell. Unfortunately, the blob was able to attack her, with extra strength and came close to taking the cleric down. In addition, some strange property of the cavern caused the spell to not be cast so her noble sacrifice to cast the spell was lost. Perhaps some remnant of the Great Mastodon interfered when calling on divine magic and prevented some spell casting from reaching the deity.
n
In spite of this setback the blob was quickly dispatched. The ghost then gestured at another room and instructed the group to get the spear for fighting the Winged Monster. Coravel led the way and found a pit trap before anyone stumbled into it. He disabled the trap and headed into what appeared to be an ancient throne room. The spear was located behind the throne so Coravel carefully made his way over. As he passed by the throne it attempted to grab him. He quickly realized the throne was not a throne but a mimic looking for a quick meal. While the mimic may have wanted a meal it failed and the only thing it could grab was Aramil. After the throne was destroyed Aramil went to grab the spear but Coravel stopped him so that he could check for traps. It was well that he did, he found a trap that could have brought the entire roof of the cave down on top of the group. He quickly disabled the trap and took the spear. The spear was a +2 Bane (animal) that appeared to be a good choice for defeating the Winged Monster. However, Quis'Ari had a thought that perhaps the tribe had not recognized the Winged Monster and it might not be an animal.
n
The ghost then led them to another room which he said was hallowed and the place of his ancestors. The Strangers found a room with small cairns and bones. When they entered the room more mephits attacked but with cold instead of with rocks and dirt. Aramil quickly reduced them down with a fireball and a few arrows took care of the rest. It was here that the session ended.
