15. No Easy Way Out

Posted on May 6, 2014January 20, 2024 by Brianna

With all of the teams in place, the leaders of the teams now directed guards towards battle.  Aramil attempted to damage the unseen attacker but did not see any signs of someone being set on fire outside the Keep. Another lightening bolt came out of the dark but missed this time. Kaylord directed some of his guards to keep an eye on the door and had Corvael do the same with some of his guards. With the attack Sophia sang out and aided inspired everyone within ear shot to being more confident and aim truer as they fought their enemies.

n

Aramil tried once again to damage the invisible attacker but still had no luck. The guards at the tower patrolled the interior and the outside stairs and noticed flashes of light in the direction of the Keep. One of the guards ran to the teleport square while the other was attacked by an attacker who became visible. The one guard made it back to the Keep and gave warning so Corvael directed guards to keep an eye on the secret teleport circle. Quis'Ari and her team stayed ready to treat the injured and the golem continued to guard the inner room for the makeshift hospital.

n

The fellows in the pit had given up trying to climb out and were taking damage from arrows and bolts being shot from the upper story of the Keep. Aramil cast a spell of Flare in an attempt to blind the attacker out front. The two attackers from the Tower headed towards the teleport circle and the injured Magn'gard in the tower was able to make it back to Cillamar. There was a greeting committee by the entrance from the tower that was ready to stop any attackers into the Keep. Three Worgs also came up but were stopped by the pit.

n

Aanother group of attackers came up the road and included archers.  Kaylord directed guards to the front door and asked for help from Nora with a crossbow at the front door. He then made his way to help protect the door and keep the guards safe. One of the guards took a massive hit and had to be dragged off for healing. Coravel had men covering the tower entrance and sent one to the upper story as a backup. Aramil continued to direct the guards upstairs with arrow attacks and also cast a spell on the Worgs in an attempt to blind them.

n

The new group of fighters made it to the front door and maneuvered as best they could around the pit. The archers stood further back and prepared to fire as the Keep's defenders came to the door. Kaylord continued to make his way to the front while the guards attacked as best they could. One of the Worgs looked confused and headed away from the battle while another one stayed in place. The third made its way purposefully to the pit but was too large to make it by the pit and the new attackers.

n

On the upper story a sudden crash came from the roof and rock came tumbling down the stairs of the Keep. Aramil cast another pit spell by the stairs to keep the new attackers out while cursing the fact that they hadn't heard anything. As one of the guards went around the back way, he noticed that he couldn't hear anything as he went throught the hall until he got to the stairs. Coravel had made it up the stairs and barely avoided falling into the pit. Some of the guards stayed at the windows to fire at the attackers and the archers while other guards went around.

n

Downstairs the attackers from the towers were trying to make their way into the Keep but were blocked by Thera, Hugin and a Magn'gard. The attacker took damage but also struck some blows against Thera. One attacker had made it out of the chamber and the other was immediately behind him helping out with the attack. On the upper story one of the attackers jumped down trying to avoid the pit but ended up falling to the bottom. Two other figures also jumped down and were able to avoid the pit. As the attackers jumped down everyone in the keep felt negative energy and damage coming from somewhere outside the Keep.

n

Downstairs Kaylord had made it to the door and was able to start damaging the attckers outside the door. The guards upstairs were also having some success in hitting the arhcers outside as well as the Worg. Thera and Hugin continued the attack and took one of the attackers down but Thera was badly wounded at this time. She left to go find healing from the cleric and her helpers while Hugin stayed behind with the Magn'gard to fight the other attacker. Aramil attacked with a spell and damaged the two attackers. Downstairs the attacker in the chamber yelled out “Sabine, I made it in, join me!”

n

Quis'Ari was channeling to counteract the damage being done by the negative energy flowing from outside. Kina and Sophia were helping to heal the guards who were badly hurt and unconscious. Nora was standing ready with a crossbow to backup the guards by the door. The guards were doing some damage but Kaylord had weighed in and was sweeping through the attackers at the door. The guards up on top were also doing damage to the archers out front and keeping them from shooting at the guards coming out the door. The attackers in the pit by the front door had quieted down after taking damage from spells, arrows and parts of the door dropping on them.

n

The two attackers on the upper story attacked again and then backing away. Coravel had jumped over the pit to the stairs and climbed up to the roof where he saw a familiar halfling holding an unholy symbol and looking towards the center of the Keep. With the two attackers out of the way in the pit Aramil focused another spell on the archers out front, along with the Worgs and made their life a bit more miserable.

n

Hugin took out the attacker in the chamber while Kaylord mowed the lawn out front. Coravel went over to attack the halfling who quickly surrendered when he saw what he was facing. One or two of the archers were still alive and they also surrendered. Before the guards and Aramil could get the two other attackers they jumped down into the pit on the upper story. When Aramil brought up the pit none of the attackers were found, only a guard who had fallen in and taken damage from the fall. The guard said the three had suddenly blinked out after the two had landed on top of him.

n

The captives were all pulled in and searched thoroughly before being locked up for the night. Everyone helped to bring the injured to Quis'Ari. The battle of the Keep had ended with none of the Keep Guards or the Magn'gard dying. A makeshift door was setup and guards were put in place in case of another attack but the night passed quietly. The next day plans were made for the captives and cleaning up afterwards. Here the session ended.
