Dreams in the Sanctuary of the Sundered Scale Paladins

Posted on March 1, 2015January 20, 2024 by Brianna

As the comforting veil of sleep descends, you immediately fall into a dream. In this vision, you are transported to the grand hall of this chapel, where you see gathered six figures in armor: a beautiful half-elf woman, a gruff dwarf, a dancing halfling, and three human males, one sad-faced, one bearded and smiling, and the third mustached and aristocratic-looking.

They stare at you silently for a moment, then five of them turn their backs to you and walk toward the door on the far wall, to the left of the statue. As they get to the door, they pass through it. The sad-faced man remains, staring at you. Then he points toward the statue. His mouth and lips move as if he were saying something, but no words issue forth. You see in his left hand he holds a small reed doll, like that a child would play with. His pointing becomes more forceful, but then the vision fades.
As this dream starts to fade, as dreams often do, you find yourself moving into another scene. This scene is also familiar, you feel as if you are flying above the river that you have been exploring today. You fly past the area where you stopped, then continue on, to a branch in the river. You see a sandy beach and steps going up to your right, then you fly and go to the left branch. You see the river flowing to the right and several figures standing on a small beach, in front of a room to the left.
One figure, human, dressed in armor, is gesturing towards the river, holding some kind of symbol and gesturing. At each gesture, the room shakes, rocks fall and the figures on the beach step back, then forward as if shaken by the earth. You feel a sense of unease, and a black force that seems to be reaching out for you, although no one seems to notice you.
Another figure watches, a drow, looking approving as a final shake occurs and the water stops flowing to the right and seems to be flowing straight down. The other figures back into the room, away from these two, holding lanterns. Then suddenly, the drow strikes the human, flinging her back into the room, smashing into the other figures. The human strikes the wall, smashing into it and knocking the other humans down. The drow then gestures, and the ceiling collapses, closing off the room.
You now find yourself on the other side of the collapse, and you can see that the human slumped against the wall appears dead. Another figure also looks dead and the others are injured and scrabbling at the huge mass of rock that now blocks the only exit. With your closer look, you can see that all of the figures are humans.
As  the humans frantically work to move the rock, the female slumped against the wall is bathed in an eery, blackness, that engulfs her. As the darkness fades, she rises unsteadily, pulling a flail from her back, and you can now see that her armor has a carving of a symbol of a fanged spider. Her eyes now glow with a red light and she/it reaches out one hand towards one of the other humans that are trying to dig through the rock. A green ray comes out her hand and as it bathes the other human in its light, he is dissolved into ashes on the ground. The female then moves forward and then hits another figure with her flail. After the female strikes the woman, she looks paler and seems to shrink down, more than what you would expect after being hit with a weapon.
After a minute of battle, woman with the flail is the only one standing, the other humans are down and appear dead. After a few seconds, one by one, they rise, red light glowing from their eyes. They all look to the female with the flail who points them to the rock wall and the rock fall. The lantern’s light fades from the room and the only light comes from their eyes. Then, the eyes all seem to look at you and you can make out a finger pointing directly at you, lighted by a green ray coming towards you. You suddenly wake, bathed in sweat. The dream fades but you have a sense of seeing some horrible evil brought to life.
