After some discussion, the group remembered the kobold guarding the bridge and the paladin sanctuary on the level above. They decided they would take the kobold up to the sanctuary and ask for the help of the paladins to help the paladin. It was decided that Quis'Ari would have the best chance talk to the kobold and persuade her to join them at a safe place. However, Kaylord was ready to help take the kobold by force, if needed.

Quis'Ari approached the kobold and chatted with her for a few minutes and gradually won her trust. She said they knew people who could help the kobold in guarding the bridge and the kobold was convinced to join the group going back up a level. When they could see the kobold was willing to walk along with Quis'Ari, the group made their way back to the sanctuary.

They entered carefully and gave warning to the paladins of the kobold they had with them. The paladins were on alert when the kobold entered but when it did not attack, they stood down. One of the paladins use magic to look at the kobold and was surprised at the good aura and the holy symbol of Iomedae that it had. They also detected strong magic, a strong spell that they are not strong enough to break. They do figure out that the kobold has been polymorphed into its current form and that breaking the spell might restore the kobold's memory. They sent a messenger back to town for help in this matter.

The group asked to stay the night and take benefit of the chapels. The paladins agree and the kobold seems to feel safer with the paladins. While the group is resting that evening, one of the paladins asks why the group did not clear out a cavern on this level that held an evil creature, Vulgaris, who sells poisons and drugs to anyone who has gold. Aramil erupted at this and said the paladins had no right to judge them for their actions in clearing out the level. The paladin did not pursue the matter further.

The Strangers also discussed their encounter with the ghostly figure and how they might get rid of her. Quis'Ari remembered that the undead might have very strong magic that could kill instantly. She reviewed her spells and they prepared for an encounter with a deadly creature. Kaylord and Coravel would approach, while Quis'Ari and Aramil would stay back, out of range and provide support.

After using the chapels and resting for the night, the group prepared to return back to the level below. They felt more comfortable with new abilities and better prepared for taking on the undead in the cavern below. The kobold stayed behind while the paladins waited for a response to their message. The Strangers made their way down the river to the large level below. As they followed the river, Coravel barely spotted a gargantuan, transparent gelatinous cube in front of them. They quickly conferred and decided to attack. Kaylord and Coravel approached while Quis'Ari and Aramil kept their distance. Aramil attacked with fire and Kaylord approached for his attack. While Coravel was moving to a flank position, Kaylord was engulfed by the cube but was able to step out of it before taking too much damage. With the party clear of the cube they quickly destroyed it. They also found some treasure from unlucky adventurers that had not been digested by the creature.

After resting, the group continued towards the fungus forest. The lizards still grazed calmly but they heard a shriek as they approached. They stopped to prepare their spells and moved in to the grove where the undead stayed. Kaylord and Coravel went in while Aramil and Quis'Ari prepared attacks. After a few seconds, the ghostly figure appeared and wailed a death piercing cry. Kaylord was almost overcome but barely managed to cling to life, with an assist from the gods. Coravel shuddered and was sickened by the cry but he was still able to fight. Aramil and Quis' Ari provided support by dragging Kaylord out of the way. The figure attacked Coravel and drained energy from him, however, he was still able to attack her and give her damage. After his last strike, she disappeared so Coravel moved to the other side of the grove. She reappeared next to him and wailed again but he was able tofight through the damage from her wailing attack. With a final blow with the magical sword, he destroyed the apparition. Quis'Ari healed Kaylord and Coravel as they kept watch for other danger. Aramil used detect magic and saw magical auras where no objects could be seen. Coravel carefully searched the area and by feel he was able to find a skeletal body with items. One item was a ring of invisibility that was hidden by invisibility. When the spell was turned off they could see the remains of a creature, with a dagger in the same place they had seen it in the ghostly figure. They identified the items and chose to rest before exploring the rest of the cave. The session ended here.
