28. Trolls in the Basement, Monks in the Attic, a Dusty Hand with the Dust Bunnies

Posted on May 10, 2020January 20, 2024 by Brianna

After spending the night, the group returned to the dungeon level of Ravenscraeg to continue their search. The group took stock of their situation, reminding themselves of their equipment, as it seemed more like several years since their last fight instead of just the day before.

n

After making their way down stairs, the checked the area to see if anything had moved in during the night. As they approached a hallway with a river running through it, they heard the sounds of rough laughter and smacks against flesh in the room on the other side. They noticed a log on the other side that appeared to be used to cross the river. Moving stealthily, Darsus used his ability to cross quickly and took Sandru to the other side to move the log. Danicia joined them and they quietly moved the log for crossing. A peek by Danicia indicated trolls on the other side who were distracted with their play with a prisoner.

n

Quietly the rest of the group crossed the river while Danicia and Sandru prepared for sneak attacks against the trolls. The trolls did not detect them and the group was able to move into position and attack without warning. Sandru and Danicia moved into flank positions while Cendrine joined in to add in more damage. Sheliak weighed in from a distance with his bow while Seoni aided the prisoner by making him invisible. While the trolls were large and armed, they did not stand very long and were quickly taken down. With a very convenient furnace in the room, their bodies were shoved into the hot fires in order to make sure they stayed dead. While a search of the room went on, the group introduced themselves to the prisoner. He introduced himself as Ulf Gorumndor, the ranger they had been seeking. He confirmed that he could lead the group over the Crown of the World to the land of Minkai in aid of their quest. He told of his capture at Asvig Longthew's farm and his week of imprisonment in Ravenscraeg. Asvig took him to Ravenscraeg and turned him over to humanoid guards dressed like monks but with a head of a bird. He heard the name of Goti Runecaster, a half-troll caster who had hired the trolls who tormented him during the week. In between times he was questioned by Thorborg Silverskor, the head of the Rimerunner's guild in Kalsgard. She had asked him about his experience with travel over the Crown of the World. While he was questioned, he saw monk and rogue like people, humans, moving in and out of the rooms. He is grateful for the rescue and willing to join the group.

n

The group found treasure hidden in the coal pile in the room. They gathered it up and prepared to move further into the dungeon. The rogues carefully opened the door into the next room, which appeared to be a dojo. There were several doors out of the room so they slowly made their way in. Partway through the room, thunder filled the air that almost deafened the group. Hidden in the rafters there were several monks. The group spread out to attack while the monks slid gracefully down to the floor and threw spears.

n

Seoni became a fiery burst while Cendrine and Sandru moved towards one monk. Danicia turned invisible in order to move closer for a sneak attack but was burned by an unknowing Seoni when Seoni moved closer to her target. Sheliak made use of his bow while Darsus helped Ulf regain his hearing. The group continued their attacks and quickly took out the monks. After searching them, they turned their attention to the doors of the room. Four of the rooms appeared to be simple sleeping chambers, with some valuables in three of them. One room was also a sleeping room that also held a disguise kit and a valuable screen. The final room appeared to be an empty sleeping chamber. However, Cendrine noted unusual stonework and a secret door. The group opened the door and carefully proceeded down the hall. There was one door and what appeared to be stairs down.

n

The rogues checked the door and opened it. Seoni detected magic so the group moved in carefully to the room. Darsus heard rustling under the bed and moved closer to see the cause of the noise. He saw a large detached hand moving around underneath a bed. He poked at it, giving damage but ended up nauseated when a stream of pus flew out from his attack. He moved up on the bed while everyone else moved in. Cendrine moved in and the hand moved to attack her. She struck back and was also nauseated when her weapon forced out another gush of rotten fluid into her face. Ulf moved in and used his throwing axe to attack while Sandru, Danicia and Sheliak looked to use distance attacks. Seoni stayed back and investigated the magical paraphenilia in the room. WIth careful attacks from a distance, the group destroyed the hand before it could nauseate anyone else.

n

The group chose to meditate here and Sandru made use of the time to look for treasure. He found additional magical items hidden in the demon shaped headborrd of the bed and some gemstones hidden within a stuffed stirge. After the meditation the group made their way down the stairs to the next level. As Sandru and Danicia peered around a corner, they saw zombies milling about and a raven flying among them. Sandru and Danicia made ready to attack after whispering to the group of the danger ahead of them. The session ended here.
