37. Don't Lose Your Head Over a Little Storm

Posted on January 5, 2022January 20, 2024 by Brianna

After discussing the information from Ulf and Koya, the group decides to look for the Path of the Spirits. The storm is continuing to grow and travel is treacherous. As they travel, Koya continues to recognize landmarks described by the traveler. When the Storm Peace Keepers see the twin statues of Desna, they are relieved to find proof of a way through the mountains. The caravan rolls into the sheltered valley while the winds and snow blow harder at their back. At the end of valley there is a cave mouth that is the entrance to the crypts.

n

Over the next two days the group slowly makes their way through the tunnel. While they see the signs of Desna they also see signs  that others have been in the crypts. Darsus and Koya identify a cairn of skulls as a symbol of the Tian god of dishonor, envy, graves and the undead, Fumeiyoshi. Spectral figures accompany them at times while they travel. They also spy Yeti, who move away from the group after they are spotted.

n

On the second day the group reaches the entrance of the Uqtaal Necropolis. The tunnel has grown wider and straighter and is lined with rows of skulls, all facing north. A pillared path with smooth walls, and decorated with paintings of starry skies, colorful auroras and headless shades marching along the path. At regular spaces there are columns with star carvings and skulls sitting atop of them. The skulls are all painted with a red demonic face on them. Koya recognize the star as a sign of Desna while Darsus recognizes the skulls as signs of Fumeoyoshi. Seoni suggests knocking the skulls off, which the group does as they carefully move down the path. The group moves ahead of the wagons, Seoni has cast spells to grant everyone darkvision, so the group does not have to use light.

n

Sheliak and Sandru scout ahead while the group follows behind them. The caravans stay back a 100 feet, in case the group flushes out something dangers. When Sandru opens a door to a tower in the hall, a wave of despair emanating from the creatures. Most of the group shakes this off, but Cendrine is paralyzed. Sandru and Sheliak do battle with the two undead behind the open door. Seoni opens a pit at the entrance of a second tower and hears a thud, as if something had fallen into it.

n

Sandru and Sheliak eventually take one of the undead out of the fight while Seoni and Darsus open the door to the other tower. Another wave of despair is felt but everyone shakes it off. Cendrine has shaken off the paralysis and helps out with the undead. Darsus takes Seoni with him over the pit to take out the undead in the crypt. When three of the undead are finished, they go into the pit to take out the last undead. With everyone attacking, the last headless undead is quickly taken out. The group gathered and healed. The session ended here.
