45. Sins Carved Into Stone

Posted on May 13, 2025January 27, 2026 by Brianna

The session started with the group preparing to move into the next chamber. Based on the crude map and information, they prepared for possible battle with giants of some type. After preparing for battle, Sandru carefully opened the door to the next chamber.

He was greeted with four arrows that missed him but no giants in sight. He did sense a trap ahead and warned the group to move carefully. Danicia made use of her flying carpet to move through the room without touching the floor. Darsus grasped Cendrine and Sheliak and took them through the room to the door on the other side. Sandru carefully walked through and Seoni stayed back as arrows continued to fly through the room. The group managed to make it to the other side of the door using magical means. They found two giants and four guards who had been firing the arrows. The giants started throwing stones at the group while the guards continued to fire arrows as they moved closer for melee combat.

Sandru and Danicia moved to the giants and Sheliak and Cendrine joined them. Seoni had moved in and hovered above the guards while Darsus moved to support the group. Ulric the wolf stayed behind to attack the guards and help to defend. With deadly blows and quick movement, the giants were taken down. Cendrine was very effective with her dwarven hatred of giants.

The guards were next and were also quickly dispatched by the group. They searched and chose to keep moving quickly since they had spells running. Sandru moved ahead and carefully opened a set of doors. They led to a hallway. Danicia opened a set of doors at the other end and saw Sandru at the south by his doors. He started moving towards Danicia when a transparent being attempted to touch him. He was able to shake it off and the group was reminded of the spirits they had encountered in the forest. Danicia moved in and chose to let the spirit willingly possess her. She learned of spirit’s abilities and broken down when she saw the spirits body on the wall, still hanging where it had been tortured. Danicia told the group the spirit’s possession gave her some advantages and they both had the same goal, to destroy the last oni, Munasukaru. No other danger appeared and Sandru discovered a grill that opened into another area beyond the hall. They could see a large cavern and the top of a stone building. It was a 60′ drop to the floor and only a small creature could get through. They decided to keep moving to see if there was another way down.

At the end of the hall they found an open shelf perched next to a large waterfall. The noise of the waterfall allowed them to move forward and look over the cavern where the falls went into. They saw several beings, including some that looked like the guards they had fought. They were about 90′ above the floor and the creatures appeared to be relaxing and not paying attention to them. This allowed the group to prepare for battle.

Once they were ready, they swiftly moved down using various magical means. Sandru and Danicia attacked the closest guards and quickly removed some of the opposition. Darsus moved and setup a wall of whirling blades on top of some of the guards. Cendrine and Sheliak moved to take on more of the guards while Seoni flew down to aid in the battle. They continued to move carefully when on the floor since it was covered with swine refuse and the floor was as uneven as the other parts of the keep.

A large group of creatures were located in a cavern to the side of the large cavern. Most of them stood to the side but when they were attacked with a magical attack, the surviving creature rushed out to attack. The other creatures moved to the back of the cavern, the ones escaping damage eyeing the intruders but making no attempts to return attacks. They seemed to be in the middle of cooking pig and some odd fungi that grew all over the cavern.

With first blood the group could tell the creatures were not at their level. They prepared to do what they need to get control of the cavern. The session ended here.
