47. Power Washing the Gear

Posted on November 24, 2025 by Brianna

The session started with the group battling hobgoblins and water elementals. The two water elementals moved closer and attempted to grab hold of those too close to the balcony. Danicia was able to move away but Sandru was grabbed and pulled closer to the river. The hobgoblins attempted to fire arrows at Seoni but her armor was above their abilities. One of them shouted for help from other guards.

Darsus made use of his travel abilities and was able to pull Sandru away from the water elemental to a safer spot. In that time Cendrine, Sheliak and Ulric finished off one of the hobgoblins and started on another. Seoni moved to a location somewhat out of sight of the hobs and kept an eye on the staircase that went down.

As the fight continued, the elementals moved closer to attack but were unable to grab hold of Cendrine. The hobs continued to shoot arrows against others of the party but they needed a few more lessons.

Danicia vanished and Sandru pulled a potion to heal the many wounds he had acquired crossing the river. Darsus cast a barrier of blades across the the room and sliced across the elementals and one of the hobs. The elementals were able to dodge aside but the hob was not as lucky. Cendrine, Sheliak and Ulric turned their attacks on another hob and brought the damage. Seoni reported quietly that there was another hob preparing to move up the stairs.

The elemental closest to Cendrine moved up into the room and attempted to attack but water simply streamed around her. The hobs moved closer to the barrier and the arrows, firing yet again at the party. The hobgoblin who started up the stairs received an unwelcome gift of ice and cold dumped on him by Seoni for her readied action.

Danicia took the opportunity, despite her unexpected wounds from the barrier and was able to attack one of the hobs on that side. Sandru waited for more healing before he was going to take part in the battle. Darsus provided the healing while Cendrine and Sheliak attacked the elemental. Cendrine struck might blows against the swirling column of water, with some her force getting lost in the waves splashing by. Ulric went over to help attack the hob coming up the stairs.

The elemental next to Cendrine attempted to attack but apparently it was having an off day and missed yet again. The other elemental ducked under the water of the river and swam up, underneath the blade barrier and back up to the second story window. The hobs in the area with Danicia moved to flank her and attacked with little effect. The hob on the stairs made its way thru the snow and ice and attempted to attack Sandru and Ulric. Based on the attacks and their defense, all of these hobs needed additional training and to spend more of their pay on armor. Another hob had made its way to the bottom of the stairs and Seoni issued a warning.

Seoni moved and summoned a pony to provide a flank for Danicia in her battle. While the pony could do little or no damage, the assist gave Danicia the opportunity to add damage to her attacks. She hit and struck damaging blows to one of her opponents. Sandru was now able to assist and he moved for a position to strike back. Darsus continued with healing so the party would not drop from unexpected damage.

Cendrine struck the final blows that dropped the elemental and Sheliak finished it off. Ulric moved into place against the hobs and attacked the one at the top. The other elemental conveniently, for Cendrine and Sheliak, slipped into the place of its fallen comrade. It had no better luck and the hobs just couldn’t connect with anyone they attacked. The last hob climbed the stairs, slowly thru the snow and ice left in place by Seoni. Seoni shot magic missiles thru the barrier and helped to damage one of Danicia’s opponents.

Sandru was in a good place and with the aid of Ulric struck a solid blow with extra damage against the hob. Danicia finished off one of her opponents and turned to the other. Darsus used his spear to attack the elemental and offer another target against its attack. Cendrine struck again and with a final blow from Sheliak the last elemental dropped. Ulric also attacked although he wasn’t able to trip his opponent.

The hobs attempted to defend themselves but after a few more blows, all of them dropped. Darsus dismissed the blade barrier and the group started to assess their situation. Sandru checked the large door in the room and reported it as unlocked and untrapped. Danicia finished off her last opponenet and moved to join the group. Seoni flew down to the floor below to check for more hobs. She reported seeing one and attempted to lure it upstairs. However, it stayed below while she continued her flight to join the group.

Darsus provided healing for everyone and Seoni, Sheliak and Cendrine moved to the large doors. Sandru went down the stairs and Danicia followed. They found two more hobs and moved to attack. Darsus pried open the large door and reported seeing a large statue standing at the bottom of stairs going up. Seoni looked and was able to tell that it was a clay golem.

With the departure of Sandru and Danicia, the others moved downstairs to aid them. Darsus and Seoni flew down while Cendrine and Sheliak slowly moved thru the ice and snow still covering the stairway. Before leaving, they carefully closed the large door to the clay golem. Down below the two rogues quickly surrounded the hobs and took them out with their extra damage. Darsus and Ulric provided an extra hand for flanking while Cendrine and Sheliak carefully made it to a clear area.

Seoni had discovered some magical items by a grotesque statue. There was a pile of items that almost seemed to be offerings to the ja noi oni depicted in disgusting detail. The others searched the rooms and found a refuse heap of fungi and other matter in one room. The other room appeared to be a storeroom filled with mundane items although several of the searchers found a hidden hole with two more magical items in it.

The session ended here, with spells active and the group ready to take on the next challenge of the dungeon.
