27. A Little Honor in a Little Kobold

Posted on February 5, 2018January 20, 2024 by Brianna

The session started with the group by the bridge observing the kobold. As they approach, she states that she is the guardian of the bridge and they must defeat her in honorabl combat before they can cross. After some questions that clarify that once they win passage they will not need to fight again, the group confers and agrees that this kobold is not acting normally. Kaylord offers to battle the kobold and she tells him he should prepare for the battle just as she will. While observing, Quis'Ari notices the kobold is wearing a holy symbol of Iomedae that is crudely fashioned.

n

While Kaylord prepares, with Aramil's help, the kobold is also observed preparing for battle. It is also noticed that in spite of being injured in the previous battle, the kobold is no longer injured. Once Kaylord and the Kobold are prepared, they start to battle. The kobold appears surprised when only Kaylord enters the battle and slightly confused. The kobold is able to get in a couple of lucky strikes but Kaylord injures the kobold to a point just above unconsciousness. When the kobold realizes it is severely injured, it sighs and says “You have won honorably, you are allowed to pass.” The kobold moves off the bridge and holds the holy symbol while laying hands on herself to heal. While the party watches she gradually heals herself.

n

The group crosses over the bridge, then back and attempts to engage the kobold again. They tell her about a group of paladins on the level above and that they might be able to help her out. The kobold looks confused and repeats that she must guard the bridge. After repeating this information the group decides to alert the paladins when they go back up and move on for now.

n

They spot a group of stalagmites that appear to have openings in them. As they move closer, they can make out what looks like windows and door openings but the structures have not been used for many years. When they get closer a two headed giant walks up. One of the heads invites them in for stew while the other thinks they should be in the stew. While Aramil is talking with the heads, Kaylord and Coravel sneak around in order to attack, if needed. After several invitations and threats, the group attacks when a large Worg approaches. Kaylord, Coravel and Quis'Ari take on the giant while Aramil distracts the Worg. After taking the giant down, the group focuses on the Worg while being careful to not be tripped. When the Worg is killed, the group searches the structures and finds some valuables along with a crude drawing. The drawing shows the pyramid and several two headed giants around it, looking on in surprise. When they finish, they can see a large open area and what appears to be a forest of mushrooms on the other side of the huts.

n

They decide to move towards the large open area where Kaylord can make out several moving creatures. As they move closer they can see many lizards in what looks like a herd, grazing on the fungus growing on the cavern floor. Aramil drops a fireball on them, the burned lizards run off in a stampede but the other lizards simply move back and continue grazing. When they move forward, two stirges drift down and start feeding on the lizards. The group attacks them, causing another stampede. One stirge flies back towards the wall and then up before disappearing. The second stirge stays and starts attacking the group, Some fire and well placed blows take out this stirge. The session ended here.
