51. Turn the Volume Up to 11

Posted on January 29, 2026 by Brianna

While the group was searching the room, Seoni flew ahead a short ways for some reconnaissance. She was surprised to find just around the corner several of the hob warriors and two stone giants located in a room down below. She quickly alerted the group who rushed forward to meet the foes.

As they moved forwarded they were pelted with arrows from the warriors and some badly aimed boulders from the giants. Two of the warriors were lurking on a ledge above the lower room and they moved into attack. Sandru, Cendrine and Sheliak moved in to surround one of them while Danicia moved in the hob on the other side. Seoni and Darsus moved up and lobbed magical attacks against the foes they had found.

With their foes locked to the earth and with little ability to pierce the groups armor and protections, they were defeated in short order. The hob warriors attempted to maintain their distance and just use their bows but could not ignore attacks when they opened up. The stone giants swung their clubs when they were able to, but their might did them no good.

After a quick check of the bodies and dispatching all of them to their maker, the group continued to move forward. They found a tunnel to lead them forward and a water soaked door on the ledge. After a few strikes on the door, they were able to burst and see the small room behind it. The room held evidence of long ago tortures, possibly involving water dripping from the ceiling. However, the small, bedraggled bonsai tree in the middle of the floor caught their attention. They remember the kami Akumi who asked them for help to recover his tree which had been stolen by the oni. They decided to take the tree with them on their way out. They did not have a way to protect the tree until they have finished battling all of the inhabitants of this dungeon.

Sheliak looked over the tree and realized it was not healthy. With his ranger knowledge of nature he was able to correct some problems and the tree looked slightly better when he is done. They left the tree in the room and moved down to the lower level and the tunnel that crossed under the river. The tunnel led to a long, large hallway filled with columns supporting the ceiling. They could see some of the columns have fallen or started to break apart. They could also see a great deal of foot traffic in the dust of the floor of the hall. However, they could not see the end of the hall, only gloom and more columns marching off into the distance.

The group started moving down the hall. As they moved, Cendrine and Sheliak realized they were wounded and asked for Darsus’s help in healing. This slowed them some while Sandru, Danicia and Seoni flew ahead. They moved forward for hundreds of feet, flying in between the columns not far from the floor. Sandru led the way and was eventually stopped by four blasts of horrific sound. One of the blasts threatened to collapse the ceiling on top of him but only a few pebbles fell down. He could not see a source of the sound however the group knew they needed to take care as they moved forward.

Danicia and Seoni caught up with Sandru and they all move forward. In the gloom they could see large, reptilian like beasts with large mouths that filled their head. Seoni cast a blizzard on them which appeared to do some damage to them. It also made the area difficult for them to walk in. Darsus moved up and cast a silence spell to act as a protective wall for the party. The others moved in and started attacking the great monsters. One of them cowardly fled to a room at the end of the corridor. The others attacked, but their sounds did not affect those behind the silence spell. The rogues were able to dodge most of the damage, even when the ceiling threatened to collapse again.

Most of the group moved forward, with Seoni staying in the area of silence. While they did damage to the beasts, they were also damaged when they let forth another horrible howl upon them. Another beast cowardly left the corridor while the others fought on. Seoni was able to deafen one of the beasts while the others hacked at them. WIth the group surrounding them, they were able to carve them up with great amounts of damage. While two of the beast laid in wait in the other room, it was of no use and they were quickly taken down.

The group found themselves, injured but alive in a small room that led to rough hewn stairs that led downwards yet again. They sensed that there was not much more to explore of this dungeon to clean it out. The session ended here.
