23. Still No Sword or Guide

Posted on August 31, 2016January 20, 2024 by Brianna

The session began with the group cleaning up after their battle. While some of the group kept watch and cleaned up the battle field, the rest went to the house to look for the thralls that had run away when the fighting started. After a careful search, they found a few of them hiding in the kitchen, terrified and wielding knives in an attempt to defend themselves. Danicia and Kelda told them to lay down their weapons and the thralls surrendered peacefully. The thralls were gathered in a central area while the group finished their search of the rooms. They did find a magical item but no sword anywhere in the house.

n

Once the search was complete, Danicia questioned the thralls to find out what they knew. They found out that Asvig had stolen the sword but that it was no longer at the house. They did not know who he had given it to, only that he had given it to someone else. They also knew that he had hired the ship which had attacked the Storm Peace Keepers when they were traveling. He had hired the ship from the Rimerunners Guild. Asvig had also performed work for the Rimerunner's Guild. They also mentioned that Asvig had captured a guide, Ulf Gormundr but he was not at the farm either.

n

The thralls also said that they had been preparing for a feast in honor of Asvig's ring giver, Snorri Stone Eye. Snorri was a renowned viking raider who had died recently of a mysterious illness. They said that his funeral was to occur at dawn the next day and he and his possessions would be burned on a funeral ship. The group let the thralls go, with a promise that they would not talk about the group when they returned to town. Before leaving, one of the thralls mentioned that Asvig had said that Ulf would soon join Snorri, with an implication that Ulf might be killed when Snorri's funeral ship was sent off.

n

When the group returned to the Hunting Serpent Inn, they spent some time gathering information. They were approached by a Varki, Uksahkka, approaches Darsus and asks about their visit to Asvig's farm. She is looking for her partner, Ulf Gormundr, who disappeared when he went to the farm about a week ago. He was supposed to be hired to lead an expedition over the Crown of the World, but he never returned. When Uksahkka went to find him, Asvig told her he had never showed up and that she had better leave. When she stood her ground, Asvig's men roughed her up and threw her off Asvig's land. She knows that Ulf would not skip on an important client and she is sure something has happened to him. When Darsus tells her of what they have learned, she offers to help find Ulf, who is like a brother to her.

n

She knows where the funeral ship is located and says that she knows there will be fog that night, which would hide them. She offers to lead them to the ship and show them how to use kayaks to paddle over. The dock is heavily guarded by Snorri's men, so they decide to get to the ship from the water. They continue to gather more information and find out that the Rimerunner's guild is an important one, but that it also known as a front for thieves guild. The guild is headed by Thorborg Silverskorr, who is rarely seen in public. They also find out that she is aided by a spell caster Goti, who lives in the wilderness. The Rimerunner's guild is located in the Jade Quarter, not far from the harbor.

n

Before heading to the funeral ship, the group checks in with Fynn to tell him of what they found. He says the deaths satisfy the deaths of his servants but he still wants the sword back for full satisfaction. The group agrees to continue looking for the sword.

n

They then head to the harbor where they use kayaks to go to the boats. As they get close, Darsus cast a silence spell in order to not alert the guards on shore. Sophia and Uksahkka stay with the kayaks while the others board the ship to search it. They see a wrapped body with a bottle of oil ready to burn through and start the ship on fire. They pass this by and pry open a hatch to the lower level. On the lower level they see it is filled with treasures but they dare not contacted by the sword. They do see a chain which leads to a misty area. When they approach, they find the old captain, now a Draugr Captin, who has been chained to the mast. The group quickly moves in and in spite of the mist, they take him down.

n

While all of the treasure is very tempting, the group grabs a few handfuls and a magical helm in order to hurry out before the onshore guards hear them. As they prepare to go on deck, there are arrows fired at the hatch when someone took a look. A shadowy figure then tips over the oil and starts a fire in the center of the ship. The group prepares to engage, if needed, but they focus on getting off the ship with everyone alive. The obscuring mist over the kayaks is still in place and the group makes their way to the area to hide in. As they move, they can tell that their are four people on the ship, moving to attack. They vanish from sight while the Storm Peace Keepers prepare to leave the ship. The group makes it to the kayaks or fly off the boat without any further attacks from the four people. They safely make it back to shore and make their way back to town as Snorri's men focus on the ship and the unexpected fire.

n

When the group gets back to town they find that their rooms have been ransacked. They notice that one window was opened for entrance and they find only a single black feather on the floor. The session ended here.
